Commenting on the news that the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) is to cut some 4,500 jobs within the UK, Liberal Democrat Finance spokesperson Jeremy Purvis MSP said:
"This is nearly double the original number of job losses predicted. RBS employees in Scotland will be deeply concerned about the impact of these job cuts.
"The Scottish Government must do everything in its power to support any Scottish RBS workers facing redundancy. Liberal Democrats want RBS to have full and open involvement with FiSAB and the Finance Sector Jobs Task Force.
"The Scottish Government must convene these bodies as a matter of urgency to prevent irreparable damage to yet another key Scottish financial institution."
