Commenting after the Chancellor Alistair Darling told the BBC Scotland Politics Show that the Labour Government supports competition and fairness in the UK banking sector, Tavish Scott MSP: Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Tavish Scott MSP said: "The Labour Government are clearly all over the place on banking.
"First they sweep aside their own competition rules to push through the merger of Lloyds and HBOS and now they say they are all for fairness and competition in the banking sector.
"This is complete hypocrisy from the Chancellor. By forcing through the merger of Lloyds and HBOS it is the Labour Government that have reduced competition and cut banking jobs on the Scottish high street.
"It is time the Labour party took responsibility for the mess they have made of the Scottish banking system."
