Speaking after questioning Education Secretary Fiona Hyslop on the SNP's promise for a maximum class size of 18 for P1 - P3, Liberal Democrat Education spokesman Margaret Smith MSP said:
"The Education Secretary is now using minority Government as a convenient excuse to dump the class size promise, along with the old chestnut that it's all the councils' faults.
"Thanks to the efforts of the previous Executive, there is a trend towards smaller class sizes. But the SNP will not deliver their class size pledge in this Parliament or in the lifetime of several Parliaments.
"When I asked the Education Secretary if the SNP knew this when they made the promise all we got was more desperate waffle as she tried to deflect the blame for yet another broken SNP promise.
"Families across Scotland remain frustrated that the SNP's election promises fail to be delivered."
